Injections disposed of globally per year
Injections administered outside of healthcare facilities by 9 million patients and caregivers in the USA
Majority of sharps waste still sent to landfill or incineration
Each year, an astounding number (over 16 billion) sharps end up being incinerated or sent to landfills worldwide, along with their accompanying bins. Recognising our responsibility in the proper disposal of sharps waste, we have taken up the challenge of tackling this issue head on.
HealthBeacon offers a streamlined Mailback system for the return of filled sharps bins. This convenient solution allows patients to securely and effortlessly dispose of their sharps bins by mail, which are then shipped to our EPA-licensed fascility. It relieves the burden on individuals, ensuring hassle-free disposal, while also offering pharmaceutical companies a sustainable method to track and dispose of product waste responsibly.
In 2020, the HealthBeacon Green Labs Initiative launched, to build and implement a processing facility for reusable sharps bins in Dublin, Ireland. The facility recovers, sterilizes, and reuses the company’s sharps bins, revolutionizing sharps waste management for patients taking medication at home. There are now facilities operating in Ireland and the USA.
